SFSV Leaders at Terra Madre

by Kathleen Leonard

Slow Food Sonoma Valley was well represented in Torino by four members of the Leadership Team—Kathleen Leonard, Margarita Dalton, Mark Feichtmeir and Nancy Lang.

The combination of three amazing interlocking events was almost overwhelming.  We arrived during the setup of Salone del Gusto amid a frenzy of activity and literally TONS of food. As Terra Madre unfolded, we met people from around the globe, tasted their products and learned their stories.

The International Congress was another feast for the mind as we listened to many delegates and their inspiring stories of working in their communities to help farmers hold onto their land, educators teaching kids and adults about food and nutrition, people preserving their culture, and a myriad of topics around food. Young people really led the way! It was heartwarming to hear of projects that were inspired by young farmers, producers and teachers when they attended Terra Madre in past years and have since come to fruition.

It wasn’t all talk. Of course, we enjoyed the most amazing workshops, tastings and dinners produced by talented and innovative chefs. Friendships were formed minute by minute, and we all came home with new friends, great ideas and fond memories—all in the name of good, clean and fair food.
